Joy Harvey
I have been carving 'oamaru stone' for out 12 years now. A wonderful medium, I have learned so much about nature and indeed the nature of humans from 'working' this stone. As my genre is The Human Form. I pursue beauty , so my sculptures must be beautiful, and impart a feeling of peace and calm. I was born in Nelson, and carved 'pounamu' for Year at 'Tai Poutini Polytechnic' in Greymouth for a year, and worked lunchtimes and after 'school' with the 'late' Adrienne Eden who had a masters degree in carving limestone. Went to Cambodia a few years ago and spent 3 days studying the wonderful carvings at 'Angkor Wat'.
